Club Notes 02/12/2014

Senior team – Saturday night we travelled to Emyvale to take on our old friends Scotstown in the Final of this year’s Credit Union Senior League Final. Scotstown seemed to settle quicker and were two points to the good after two minutes, but as the nervous settled the Faughs boys started to get back into the game with points from Benny Mc Elroy and Ciaran Hanratty bringing us back to level before Scotstown opened up a one point advantage at half time. Faughs 0-3 Scotstown 0-4. The second half was an absorbing contest, as both teams pushed each other hard to find the gaps to get those vital scores. Unfortunately for the Faughs those opportunities fell to the Boys in Blue as Conor Mc Carty kicked some great frees to open up a three point lead entering the last five minutes. In such a tight affair, a goal was always going to be the crucial score, the Faughs pushed very hard for this equalising goal only to be hit on the break with Scotstown finishing to the back of the net on the stoke of full time. Final Score Faughs 0-8 Scotstown 1-10. While everyone was extremely disappointed with the result, we know that we have made good progress this year and while we exit 2014 without a Senior Trophy, we know that we are knocking hard on the door of success. A big thank you goes out to all the Management Team and players for their efforts during the year, a Championship Semi Final appearance and a League Final, let’s hope next year we can go one step further.
