Club Notes: 24th June 2014

Senior team The Senior team entertained Truagh last Friday night in a Star game and the strength of the team was further depleted as a result of been able to field without a number of players due to injury and holidays. Truagh got out of the blocks quickly and after twelve minutes led by 1-5 to a point but goals from Ciaran Hanratty and Mark Treanor followed by a few points insured that by half time that we were still in the game by a score line of Faughs 2-4 Truagh 2-6. The second half was like a carbon copy of the first with Truagh opening an eight point lead only for the Faughs to drag themselves back into the game with another Ciaran Hanratty goal but the comeback ran out of time as Truagh ran out three point winners on a score line of Faughs 3-9 Truagh 3-12. With the County team now taking centre stage the Co. Monaghan Credit Unions Senior league will take a break until July 13th when we will travel to Scotstown for a 2pm throw in.

U16 Boys The lads return to action this week after the Junior Cert Exam break with a home fixture against Tyholland this Thursday 26th of June with a throw time of 7.30. The boys are currently lying in third place at the midpoint of the league so two further points would be a great boost.

U16 Girls The U16’s returned to action following the exam break on Monday night at home to Corduff. The Faughs got off to a slow start in the first half, but came more into it as the half progressed. Trailing by 9 points at half time, the girls came roaring back in the second half, dominating possession and closing the gap to within a point. Unfortunately time just ran out on the girls, but another excellent second half performance in particular from Sally Maloney, Arlene Leonard, Aoibheann Fitzsimons and Eleanor Doyle.
