Club Notes January 18th

As we enter a new year, all of our committees are busy making plans for the new season. We are expecting a very busy and exciting year both on and off the field, so keep an eye out over the next few weeks for plans for the new season.

Well Done: Well done to the Our Lady’s school choir who will have the honour of performing at the 3 Arena in Dublin this Thursday.

Well done to everyone involved in organising and officiating at the recent McKenna Cup match against Queens University, Belfast. Played under the floodlights, it was not a great night for football given the mist and fog, but patrons were kept warm with Sean and his team providing plenty of warm drinks.

Watch out: Watch out for an information night pencilled in for February 20th at Iontas which will be an open invite to all Faughs (both old and young). Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for more details.

New Book: Tommy McGuire has recently released a new book, “The Runner McGough”. Available in Declan Loughman’s and McMahon Super Valu, the book tells the remarkable story about John McGough who grew up in Glasgow and was an Olympic athlete, masseur with Celtic and trainer with Manchester United in the early 1900’s. However, John McGough would be better known to Castleblayney GAA Stalwarts as he was a masseur and would have treated them in his home in Annaglaive for various pains and ailments picked up in the course of their football days.

Monaghan Year Book: The 2017 Monaghan GAA Yearbook is still available throughout the county.

Date for the Diary: On Saturday February 24th we will be hosting the Allianz National League game against Tyrone in St. Marys Park. The match will be played under the lights with a throw-in at 7.00pm.

Monaghan GAA are running Beginner Courses in Coaching and Games Development in the new year. These are great courses to attend for aspiring coaches and managers, and include a Child Protection Workshop as well as lots of practical work and games workshops.

Venue&Dates: Cloghan, 19th/20th January; Magheracloone, 9th/10th February

Please contact Brian Sherry or Keith Hanratty for more information about any of the courses.
