Club Notes September 5th

Greenfield Foods SFC: The Faughs travelled the short distance to Clontibret to line out against Truagh last Saturday in Round 1A of the senior championship. In dry and warm conditions, the Faughs got off to a good start and were 0-05 to 0-01 up within 15 minutes.

Truagh got back into the game with a goal half way through the first half, but Blayney kept putting over the points to leave the half time score: Blayney 0-09, Truagh 1-04. The lads kept up the good play and kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half and though Traugh rallied a few times they were unable to peg back the Faughs. Final score Faughs 0-16, Traugh 1-09.

We now travel to Inniskeen this Saturday to take on Clontibret in Round 2A at 4.00pm. This is a double header with Carrick playing Magheracloone in the second game so please come out and support the lads as they continue their championship quest

U12 Girls

Last Friday evening saw this group of young ladies travel to Scotstown in a match Blayney needed to win. From the outset both teams came quickly out of the blocks and an exchange of scores left Blayney 4 points up at half time. At the restart Scotstown came at Blayney again but 3 goals in succession for Blayney insured a 7 point win at the end. Well done girls on a match that you showed great composure and maturity.
Next match is away against Doohamlet Thursday evening at 6.30pm

U14 Girls

Monday evening last saw the U14 championship continue with a home game for Blayney against near neighbours Donaghamoyne. Having met previously in the league these teams know each other very well and regardless of winning that match Blayney were taking nothing for granted. Donaghmoyne started the brighter with the Faughs girls taking a little longer to settle into the game. As with previous encounters a hard-fought battle was on the cards. At half time there was nothing between the two teams with Blayney just edging it with a one-point lead on a score line of 2-3 to 2-2.
The half time break gave Blayney a chance to regroup and they came out strong in the second half taking their scoring chances much better. A number of goals helped give the Faughs a cushion but with the intensity of the game nobody could switch off. Donaghamoyne tried to break through a solid Blayney defence but were denied any goal chances. The match finished with Blayney winning on an impressive score line of 8-6 to 2-4.
A huge congratulations to the team and management.
This result now sees the girls play in the championship final next Monday evening against Carrickmacross in Aughnamullen at 6.30pm. Please come and support them.

Best Wishes: As another year of the hugely successful Operation TransFAUGHSmation gets under way this week we wish all the participants good luck. A special thanks also to Tom and his team who tirelessly put in a massive amount of time and effort to make this the event that it is. Well done and good luck to all!
