Faughs Girls Guest Tea Huge Success

Last Sunday evening saw Iontas Theatre undergo something of a transformation as the Faughs Girls took over famous stage to entertain lots of their own guest as part of their inaugural Guest Tea .The promise of a hot cup of tea, served with lots of lovely cakes and buns mixed in with an afternoon of chat and craic proved to be a great draw for well over two hundred people to attend .The Theatre was filled with the great sound of Irish music from Aughnamullen Ceoltas group and it wasn’t long before the sound of music was joined by the sound of laughter and chat as the large crowd filtered into the room. There was an added bonus for all when the Monaghan Senior Ladies Team dropped in to offer their support for the event, the ladies were just after a great win over All Ireland Ladies Senior Champions Cork earlier in the afternoon and there appearance was very much appreciated by everyone within the Faughs Club. As with any of the Club events, the work that goes in behind the scenes is huge, from the moment the idea was first floated before Christmas the organising committee have been working so hard to make sure that the event was a brilliant success and the fact that this was a new group of people within the Club pulling this event together was even more impressive. Darren McQuillan who heads up the Clubs Ladies section was thrilled with the response from the Community “We are new to the ladies football scene, we are only four years in existence but our progress is significant, we have received nothing but encourage from everyone in our community and they have shown their commitment today by turning up in such large numbers. Ladies football has received great support from the Faughs Club and hopefully over the next few years we will be able to field a Senior Ladies Team, I would like to thank the Monaghan Senior Ladies team for turning up, it was a great touch by the girls.” Grainne Miller one of the main organisers was delighted with the effort from everyone “Since we decide before Christmas that we would hold the Guest tea it has been all hands on deck, it’s been a great experience for us all, we have had great fun organising the event, the whole idea was for a social event were people in the community could catch up for a chat and a cup of tea and I think we have achieved that today. All the money raised today will help support the significant cost of running teams throughout the year, so a big Thank you to everyone who supported the event in any way.” Well done to all.
