Castleblayney Faughs are delighted yet again to announce that McMahons Supervalu have come on board as the main sponsor of the sixth Castleblayney 5K walk/run happens on Sunday the 27th of November at 2pm. The Supervalu Castleblayney 5K which is now in its sixth year has proven to be one of the biggest events in the local community as well as an established event for all local athletes. The walk/run, which traditionally marks the end of the 12-week training programme called “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” was put in place as a target for the participants to test their fitness by either walking or running the route. This year the fitness programme has attracted over 200 participants and it’s anticipated with the progress they have made to date, that all 200 will be able to complete the challenge.

This year the event will change slightly, for the first time ever there will be a 2K for all the Children under 14 at 1pm, while the Senior Race over the longer 5K distance will get underway at the usual time of 2pm.

Pete McMahon owner of McMahons Supervalu was delighted to once again be associated with such a great event, speaking at the launch Pete outlined that “The Castleblayney 5K and indeed Operation TransFAUGHSmation are great community events and both seem to be constantly growing. Last years race was a great success with over 800 people coming to town, events like this allow us to demonstrate to wider area the great community spirit that exist in Castleblayney. Health and Wellness are key elements of the Supervalu offering so the brands association with events like the Castleblayney 5K Run/Walk are a perfect fit for us. Pete who is a keen runner is currently back in training and is getting in three to four runs per week in an effort to get back to race fitness for the 27th of November.

Operation TransFAUGHSmation leader and former Faughs Star Tom Miller who delivers the fitness programme expressed his sincere gratitude to Pete, “McMahons Supervalu is a great supporter to so many community events, we really appreciate the support the Faughs Club receive from Pete, without sponsorship events like ours won’t be able to take place. It also allows us to do other things which improve the experience for the Runner/Walkers such as chipping the race, this year we have a Juvenile Race which will help cater for the Under 14 age group, we have taken the initiative to encourage the young boys and girls to join us on the day.”
