Senior Men: On Sunday last our seniors were due to play Truagh in their final round robin game. Unfortunately due to health & safety concerns and a lack of clarity our senior executive made the difficult decision not to travel and to concede the game. This was an extremely tough choice to make and after a lengthy meeting on the issue the executive decided that the health, safety and wellbeing of our our players is our number one priority and will remain to be so down the line. We understand that this decision may have disappointed some, but we feel the correct decision was made. We would also like to wish the Truagh club well going forward through the remainder of the year ahead.

Senior Ladies: It wasn’t to be for our senior ladies this year as defeat to Seans in another intense and tight battle knocked them out of this year’s championship. We are sure ladies, you will bounce back from this and come back bigger and stronger next year. We would like to wish Nicole Maguire a speedy recovery from an injury sustained the previous week and her sharp shooting skills were a miss at the weekend. Finally a big thanks to Tom, Maire, Mickey, Gráinne and of course the players for all their hard work and commitment throughout what has been a very strange year.

Congrats: Congratulations to Kealan and Aimee Duffy on the birth of their baby daughter.

Covid-19: As you are all aware at this stage, the government tightened restrictions meaning spectators are not allowed to attend games. Strictly one parent/guardian is permitted to accompany a juvenile to games and we ask if you could kindly adhere to this. Its not what we would have wished for at this stage but we must follow the strict guidelines. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

Senior Champioship: Blayney went down fighting last Sunday when Scotstown pipped them by a goal in the senior Championship at St Mary’s Park.  Though defeated they restored a lot of pride in their jersey as they opted for a fast moving, attacking game . They quickly got the ball rolling with two points from free taker Robbie Hanratty. Then Scotstown hit a ten minute purple patch which saw them hit 1-4 on the trot, with Blayney getting caught on the overlap for Scotstown’s Francie Maguire to find the Blayney net and this effectively cushioned them  against the Faughs resurgence . That Blayney revival started ten minutes from the end of the first half when Blayney sent over five points to Scotstown two  with Ciaran Hanratty winning three marks  from which he sent over and the other two points came from Marty McElroy  and Mark Treanor leaving the score at half time Scotstown  1-6 Blayney 0-7. Two second half opening points by Scotstown saw them extend their lead to four points. Then Blayney and Scotstown exchanged points on four occasions with Blayney’s four points coming from Darren Daly, Robbie Hanratty (2)  and Mark Hanratty leaving that solitary goal dividing the sides as the game moved into the last ten minutes. It was tough , tenacious and uncompromising as both sides battled to the last, fighting for every score. Scotstown then hit two points to stretch their lead to five points. But the Faughs were undeterred.  From defence, midfield and attack they drove at everything and when they got the ball they  broke forward with passion and conviction  pulling back two points  from to narrow Scotstown’s lead once again to a goal and that was how it finished with the final score Scotstown 1-13 Blayney 0-13. Blayney are now away to Truagh on Sunday in their final game of their group. Blayney Team.  Kieran Duffy, Fergal Malone, Mark Kelly, Kealan Duffy, Josh Walsh, Mark Hanratty (0-1), Brian Flanagan, Barry Hanratty, Mark Treanor (0-1), Robbie Hanratty (0-5), Dermot Malone, Marty McElroy (0-1), Ciaran Hanratty (0-4), Darren Daly (0-1), Brendan McElroy. Senior Championship Rd2: On a showery Sunday last our senior men were aiming to get their season back on track when they travelled to meet Carrickmacross. A bright start with a point from the boot of Marty inside the first minute but Carrick responded with a quickfire goal of their own from the boot of Aaron Lynch. The next fifteen minutes it was Carrick who continued on top adding another four points to their tally with our only response a pointed free from the boot of Robbie. That was to be our only other score in the first half with Carrick tapping over another two. Half time Carrick 1-06 Blayney 0-02. The 2nd half began with little change with Carrick continuing were they left off in the first half by adding another three points to Blayneys one in reply. The end of the third quarter saw our best period of the game and we managed to get a few more points on the board but some poor shooting and strong Carrick defending ment that again it wasn’t to be our day with the final score been Carrick 1-12 Blayney 0-08. Next match for the men is fixed for the 16/08/20 V Scotstown at home were a win is vital.

U13 boys report: Thanks again to Max McGinnity for the U13 updates and reports. Keep them coming. All three of the Blayney U13 teams were in action again this Saturday with mixed results. The first team out were the Division 1 team who came up against a very strong Monaghan Harps outfit. It was a very tight first half affair with Blayney leading by a point at the first waterbreak. A couple of scores from the Harps meant they were 1-7 to 1-4 up at Half Time. The boys battled on and never gave in but a couple of key absentees proved vital with the Harps running out convincing winners in the end. Lorcan Mone lead the scoring with 2-2. Daithi Kelly and Tiernan McGeough were also impressive for the Faughs. Final Score Blayney 3-6 to Harps 6-10. The Division 5 team also played the Harps in St Mary’s Park on Saturday. This team ran out convincing winners on the day. The Harps were no match for this very strong Blayney outfit. Every player put in an incredible shift. Declan Flanagan, Alex McGinnity, Theo McMahon and Cormac McMahon were especially impressive on the day. Final Score Blayney 11-11 Harps 3-8. The Division 6 team had to travel to Corduff on Saturday for their game. These boys faced a well oiled Corduff side but were very unlucky with Corduff winning by 2 points. This was the first outing for some of our U11 players who gave a good account of themselves. Final Score Corduff 3-11 Blayney 2-12
