Club protocols for a safe return

Hi Parents.

We hope you are all safe and well.

Great news – our pitches are open from this Saturday. We have organised a training schedule (week beginning Monday 29th June) for the children – we will be sending out schedules over the coming days.

The club have taken all the required measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19 transmission. It is vital that you and your child do the same for a safe return to play.

There are some new rules and safeguards the GAA have put in place to help us all get back.

– Return to play is optional; if you or your child is not comfortable returning that is OK – we will see you in the not too distant future

– Club membership must be up to date, otherwise your child is not insured.

– Before returning the GAA eLearning module MUST be completed online:

– Before returning the GAA eHealth questionnaire MUST be completed online: and reconfirmed online before every subsequent training/match

It is vital the above 2 modules are completed – players will not be allowed into the grounds without completing them and some of the coaching team will be actively checking this upon entry.

At the bottom of this post are 2 documents released by Croke Park that help explain what you need to do. Resources are also available on the GAA website @

– All players must take their own water bottle (there will be no sharing of water bottles)

– All players to take their own hand disinfectant (there are mini bottles available in the shops)

– All players have gone to the toilet before attending training

– Everyone to follow the guidance of coaches and supervisors within the grounds

– No parents/guardians are allowed within the grounds – children to be dropped off and collected in the parking area outside the main gate.

– Everyone adopts the “Get In, Train, Get Out” policy – no lingering before or after training.

This may seem like a lot, but it is for the safety of everyone in the club, especially the children so if we abide by the rules we can all get back to enjoying our sport.

You will soon be getting a message about actual training times – we hope to see all the children very soon.

For any questions you can either talk to the member of the coaching team who will meet your child at the gate, or you can contact the Children’s Officer, Brian Sherry on 086 233 4287 or the Secretary, Philip Traynor on 087 920 1381

New pitch: Finally work has begun on our much needed second playing pitch, beginning with the removal of the trees at the old golf course. This is a very expensive project and we will be looking for your support in helping towards the cost by continuing to support our club lotto and also our club bingo. See details below.

Bingo is back: Castleblayney Faughs GFC are delighted to announce that they are once again running their club bingo beginning on Saturday afternoon June 27th in the stand at St Mary’s Park. All safety measures and standards will be in place to abide by all current regulations. Castleblayney Faughs GFC have held their club bingo in numerous venues around the town including the old lyric building and most recently the Glencarn hotel. This is a very exciting time for the club as we embark on a significant fundraising drive to help cover the cost of our new second playing pitch at St Mary’s Park. The Castleblayney Faughs GFC look forward to welcoming many of our patrons back to our bingo and not to forget that we welcome all new bingo players young and old. Come and enjoy a family day out at our bingo in the outdoors. Keep an eye on social media for full details of the bingo and all measures been taken to ensure people’s safety.

Field: Just a reminder that our pitch and club grounds remain closed under current guidelines but should reopen in the next two weeks.

Condolences : Castleblayney Faughs would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family of the later Peter McGinn, Drumcrew.
Peter was a longtime supporter and player for the Faughs and was part of the 5 in a row team. He captained the team for one of the five.
Peter was a distinguished goalkeeper and played there for both club and county picking up an All-Ireland junior medal playing for Monaghan in 1956.
You could say goalkeeping was in Peter’s blood as both Peter’s father and grand-father played for Castleblayney in goals. Legend has it that his great grand-father played in that same position. In keeping with the tradition, Peter’s son Martin also represented club and county as goalkeeper.

Pitches: Our pitches currently remain closed due to current restrictions but all going well we may see this change at the end of month were some social distancing training may take place. Keep checking social media for any further updates.

Fundraiser: Our senior county team are currently running a shave or dye fundraiser in aid of some great causes. Show your support by going to their Facebook or twitter page and following the relevant link.
