A Cairde

It is aimed at but not limited to helping the most vulnerable in the community which ranges from the sick and elderly to parents of young kids and those who have no access to transport.
If as expected over the next few days/weeks the situation worsens we expect a significant increase in requests for our services. If you are in any position to help if even for an hour or two per week can you please text you name to the following number
0872375351.
You will then be added to the Castleblayney Faughs Community Assistance WhatsApp group of volunteers.
Many hands make light work for all so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Club Notes November 27th

AGM: Our AGM took place on Friday past. It was held in Iontas and was well attended. Melissa give an update of how things went throughout the year, followed by updates and presentations from Brian, David and then the Chair’s address from Mac.
Many thanks to Iontas for hosting the event!

Faughs Share Draw: With only a month left until the draw, we still have some tickets left. If you do not have a ticket please contact any member of the committee and they will help. This would make a great Christmas present for someone along with helping to make our new pitch a reality.
With a chance to win €12,000 top prize (plus 5x€1,200 runner-up prizes), we would ask anyone and everyone associated with the club to purchase at least one ticket, take on the responsibility of selling at least one further ticket (family&friends) and help spread the word about our new Share Draw. A full ticket costs €100 with further options of €50 and €20, and with only a maximum of 1200 tickets available this is a great opportunity of winning a big cash prize. The sole purpose of the draw is the development of our much needed second pitch which will be an enormous benefit to the current and future generations of Faughs players. We have a team of ticket sellers who will be visiting different areas throughout the next while so please do your best to support this very worthy cause. Tickets can also be purchased from any exec committee member or online at sharedraw.castleblayneyfaughs.com

Lotto: Winning numbers in this weeks Lotto: 2, 13, 14, 15. No winner of the €3800 jackpot. Congratulations to Marty McElroy who wins €50 in the lucky dip. Next weeks jackpot is a tempting €3900. You can play at lotto.castleblayneyfaughs.com or look out for sellers about town at the weekend.

5K Walk&Run/Operation TransFAUGHSmation: This past weekend we had the 9th Mc Mahon Supervalu Castleblayney 5K/2K.
THe U14’s 2K was first of, and there was a fantastic turnout for the run with lots of runners from our local schools and well as from further afield. Special mention to the Gael Scoil, Junior School, Girls School and the Boys School who all turned out in numbers in their respective colours and did themselves very proud.
What an achievement to all the Operation TransFAUGHSmation folk who took part in the 5K event. This was the culmination of weeks of preparation and congratulations to everyone involved no matter what your goals were. Special mention to Tom Miller and his team for organising and running the event. Events like these would never take place without the dedication and hard works that volunteers like Tom and his team put in every year. Well done to everyone who picked up awards as part of the program – keep up the great work!

Well Done: Congratulations to the 1st year Boys team from Our Ladies who were part of the blitz held recently in Cloghan organised by the Monaghan Coaching and Games Development team.

Mc Mahon Supervalu Castleblayney 5K

All local people urged to come out and take part in the Mc Mahon Supervalu Castleblayney 5K

The 9th Mc Mahon Supervalu Castleblayney Flat 5 K walk/run happens this Sunday the 24th of November and is proudly promoted by the Castleblayney Faughs. Organisers have been working extremely hard over the last few months preparing for the walk/race as the club seek to keep building the event into one of the best events on the North East athletics calendar.

The event which will mark the end of the 12-week training programme called “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” was put in place as a target for the participants to test their fitness by either walking or running the route. This year’s race will be certified and will be a chipped event, while Safety has been a key priority, with the Committee and the Gardai working closely to develop the stewarding plan and traffic diversions.

The Walk/Run is very much a community effort and will cater for all levels of fitness, fun walkers, walkers, joggers and runners. Registration will take place in the Glencarn Shopping Centre between 11 and 1 o’clock, for those people who have pre registered you will be able to collect your Race numbers and chips at this time. This year there will be an Under 14 race at 1pm which will be completed over a shorter 2K distance.

As normal there is a huge amount of interest in this event and the race committee have asked that all contestants would present themselves as early as possible for registration. There will a brief race warm up at 12.45 for the Under 14 and 1.45 for the Senior Race by Operation TransFAUGSHmations fitness instructor Tom Miller with the gun sounding for the start of the race at 2pm sharp. Presentation of medals will happen directly after the race as you either run or walk across the line. All participants and their families are invited back to the Glencarn Hotel for tea and sandwiches were All Star Goalkeeper Rory Beggan will speak to the audience.

The local community is very much encouraged to don their runners and join in on the fun or alternatively come out and shout on your family, friends and neighbours as they push to complete the walk/run. Let us show everyone in the North East what the people of Castleblayney can do if we put our minds to it.

Finally, Registration forms are available from Mc Mahons Supervalu or online at www.castleblayneyfaughs.com or www.Runireland.com .

Mc Mahon Supervalu Faughs 5K Walk/Run

Mc Mahon Supervalu renews its sponsorship for the Castleblayney 5K Walk/Run
Castleblayney Faughs are delighted yet again to announce that Mc Mahon Supervalu have come on board as the main sponsor of the eighth Castleblayney 5 K walk/run happens on Sunday the 24th of November at 2pm. The Supervalu Castleblayney 5K has proven to be one of the biggest events in the local community as well as an established event for all local athletes. The walk/run, which traditionally marks the end of the 12-week training programme called “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” was put in place as a target for the participants to test their fitness by either walking or running the route. This year the fitness programme has attracted over 180 participants and it’s anticipated with the progress they have made to date, that all 180 will be able to complete the challenge.
This year the event will also see the return of the 2K route for all the Children under 14 at 1pm while the Senior Race over the longer 5K distance will get underway at the usual time of 2pm.

Pete Mc Mahon owner of Mc Mahon Supervalu was delighted to once again be associated with such a great event, speaking at the launch on Monday evening Pete outlined that “The Castleblayney 5K and indeed Operation TransFAUGHSmation are great community events and both seem to be constantly growing. Last year’s race was a great success attracting a large crowd of people to the town and events like this allow us to demonstrate to the wider area the great community spirit that exists in Castleblayney. Health and Wellness are key elements of the Supervalu offering so the brands association with events like the Castleblayney 5K Run/Walk are a perfect fit for us.”
Pete who has recently returned to training after injury has set himself a personal goal of trying to get around the course again in front of his good friend and Club Referee Raymond Malone but more importantly Pete is keen to get as many local people involved on the day and has also enrolled over twenty five of the Supevalu staff to sign up for the 5K on the 24th of November .
Operation TransFAUGHSmation leader and former Faughs Star Tom Miller who delivers the fitness programme expressed his sincere gratitude to Pete: “Mc Mahons Supervalu is a great supporter to so many community events, we really appreciate the support the Faughs Club receive from Pete. Without sponsorship, events like ours would not be able to take place, it also allows us to do other things which improve the experience for the Runner/Walkers such as chipping the race. Last year our Juvenile Race was a great success with the support of the local schools we ended up with over 150 runners on the day. It’s a great target for all the younger children”.
The Mc Mahons Supervalu Castleblayney 5K is open to everyone and the Faughs club very much encourages all locals to don their runners and join in the fun – the run is a real good community day. Further details on the event will be published over the next number of weeks.

Registration is available online at www.castleblayneyfaughs.com or www.runireland.com, so please dust down the runners and keep Sunday 24th of November at 2pm free so you too can participate.
