Under 15 League Semi Final:Three points stood between the sides as the Blayney under 15 side went down to Monaghan  Harps in the Under 15 League semi final at St Mary’s Park last  Thursday evening. Blayney had started with blistering pace and in the opening ten minute had scored  1-4  with 1-3 coming from Steven McGinnity  and midfielder Calib Murphy accounting for the other point. Then in the 13th minute when Monaghan’s John McCrystal  struck a goal for the Harps all seemed to fall apart for Blayney. Monaghan added three more  points and only a point stood between the sides at the first water break .  While in the second quarter the sides swapped points on two occasions,  Blayney scores coming from Senan Hanratty and Tom Carey,  the Harps landed their second goal through impressive Dara Murray to open up a two point lead at half time for Monaghan with the score standing Monaghan 2-5 Blayney 1-6. Then on the turnaround, Monaghan moved into over-drive dominating the game and hit 1-3 without replay from the Faughs, the goal coming from a John McCrystal penalty,  to open up an eight point lead for the Harps and it looked as if it was curtains for the young Blayney side. But just before the second water break Max McGinnity sent over a point  and this was the clarion call for dramatic Blayney recovery in the last quarter. Blayney carried the fight to the Monaghan and began to impose themselves on the game in this final periods with  McGinnity giving an outstanding performance as he struck again with a goal and point  to  narrow the gap to a single goal and it was now all to play for. But Blayney’s hopes seemed dashed again when the Harps struck the Blayney net for the 4th time. But manfully the Blayney lads lifted their game again and hit back with three points through the exuberant McGinnity and that lone last quarter goal by the Harps was all that stood between the sides at the end with the final score standing Monaghan 4-8 Blayney 2-11.  Team: John Flanagan, David Lambe, Ben McDonald, Padraig Carville, Shay Broderick, Tom Carey, Alfie Hughes, Canice Murphy, Thyo Olajide, Senan Hanratty, Lorcan Mone, Cormac Conlon, Colum O’Reilly, Max McGinnity, Bríon Sherry. Subs Used : Daithí Funcheon, Shane Miller, Paul McKenna.

Under 19s Go Down In The Final: The Blayney Under 19 side went down by four points to Scotstown in the Div 2 Final at Ballybay last Wednesday evening.  A strong last quarter by Blayney  saw them hit three points in succession to force the game into extra time. Three goals in the first half effectively kept Blayney in contention in a half where they were outplayed and outscored by the well on top Scotstown side who also in that period had their fair share of wides. Blayney had got off to a great start with a good goal by Conal McHugh. But by the 10th minute  Scotstown were  in front  as they hit 1-2, the goal coming from Paul Maguire. Then the sides exchanged scores with both side score 1-1 each. Conal McHugh accounted for Blayney’s 1-1, the goal, coming from a penalty while Maguire again accounted for Scotstown’s second goal.  A third Blayney goal this time from Niall Mulligan opened up a one point lead for the Faughs. But it was short lived as Scotstown upped their game a gear to hit four unanswered points to leave the score at the interval Scotstown 2-7 Blayney 3-1. The sides scored three points apiece in the third quarter to leave three points between the sides going into last period  and here Blayney turned in a strong showing with  two points from Niall Rice  and Nathan McArdle with final score  to clinch a draw, Blayney 3-7 Scotstown  2-10 and force the game into extra time. In the first half of extra time Blayney scored three points through Niall Rice (2) and Conor Ruddy but Scotstown continued to press hard and hit  1-3, Darragh Murphy getting the Scotstown goal to open up a three point lead for Scotstown with sides standing at Blayney  3-10 Scotstown 3-13. Scotstown  extended their lead to four points in the 2nd minute of the second half and when Killian McKenna  struck their fourth goal it seemed as if the game was up for Blayney. But they fought on and pulled back a goal from Niall Rice. But it was too little too late. The final score was Scotstown 4-14 Blayney 4-10.  Team: Brandan McCague, Calleb McArdle, Charlie McQuillan, Zach McArdle, Keelan McMahon, Ultan McMahon, Ciaran McEneaney, Ben Mallon, Nathan McArdle, Conor Mulligan, Odhran McArdle, Conor Ruddy, Cillian Hanratty, Niall Rice, Conal McHugh . Subs sued: Shay Casey, Ross Maguire.

Senior Ladies: The senior ladies opened their championship campaign with a hard fought draw against Killeevan on a damp Friday evening last. Leading by two with time almost up, a Killeevan free kick found its way to the net but the girls didn’t give up and forced a free with time almost up which Jodie McQuillan duly obliged by putting it between the posts under pressure. The ladies have a bye in this weeks round of fixtures.

Covid: Just a reminder to everyone to keep adhering to the covid guidelines by continuing to fill in your return to play prior to training and Games. We are in the midst of another wave of this pandemic with current case numbers extremely high and a number of cases throughout the club. We urge you all to keep safe until we can finally kick this out of the park.
