Club Notes, January 19th 2016

Welcome Back: We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable break over the last month or so and the Santa was good to you all, 2016 will hopefully be another successful for our members, players and supporters.

AGM: The Club AGM will take place on Thursday 28th of January at 7pm, in the media room in the new stand. We urge all members to attend, as the AGM is a chance for you to have a say in the running of the Club – remember “it’s your Club” so why not come along and express your views they are always welcome.

County Board Annual Awards: This Friday night sees possibly the greatest Faughs player and indeed Monaghan finest been inducted into the 2015 Hall of Fame, the quiet, shy & retiring Mr. Eugene ‘Nudie’ Hughes. Nudie who proudly played his Club football for many years in the famous Green and Gold colours of the Faughs helped the Club to 9 County Titles and two Ulster Club Titles among a host of other Club titles. Nudie also helped Monaghan to victory in the 1985 National Football League Final and collected three Ulster Senior Football Championship medals in 1979, 1985, and 1988. Nudie was the first Monaghan man to receive an All-Star Award and featured regularly on All-Star teams, he also collected 3 Railway Cup Medals with Ulster and he was listed among the 125 greatest stars of the GAA lists. Nudie needs no introduction in any part of Ireland and we have no doubt that he will really enjoy his time on Friday evening in the limelight. The second award for one of our Faughs is for Mr. Faughs himself, Mr. Brian Sherry. Brian has been awarded the Juvenile Official of the Year, and from a Club perspective we could think of no one more deserving to receive the accolade. Brian has been Juvenile Chair for the last number of years and has been instrumental in pushing our Juveniles to the next level, never taking a back seat but making sure he is front and centre to help develop and progress our Club forward. WE congratulate both of the lads and look forward to helping them celebrate Friday evening when they collect their awards.
Juvenile Update: With the “odd age proposal” been rejected last week at the county Youth Forum it now means that we will play our games at U12, U14, U16 and Minor for 2016, there will be a few meetings over the next couple of weeks to appoint all the coaching teams.

Coaching Programmes: The Monaghan Coaching and Game Development team have pulled together an excellent programme of training courses for the months of January and February. The first of these was in Cremartin on Monday which demonstrated the equipment for fitness programmes, the next course on February 1st in Cloghan which will cover defensive/attacking systems and strategies while the final course will be on Goalkeeping on Monday 22nd of February, all course start at 7.30pm and finish at 9pm.

Well Done: a lot has happened over the last few weeks well done to all the girls who made the county panels, we had a strong representation of Faughs girls with the County U14 panel with Caitlin McGeough Sarah Wilson Shona Brady Melissa Carr Emma Glynn Jodie McQuillan, all making the panel, while Aoibhean Fitzsimons made the U16 panel. Well done to Our Lady’s Girls team on winning their fourth Ulster Title with our own Orlaith Maguire been awarded player of the match award. Finally well done to Dermot Malone on his very insightful “Five Minutes” article in Gaelic Life.
