Festival: It’s finally here. This weekend all roads lead to St Mary’s Park with a bumper weekend of live entertainment lined up, headlined by Nathan Carter on Sunday. Blayney Had A Good Win in The League: A strong second half saw Blayney eclipse Monaghan Harps in their senior league outing at St Mary’s Park last Tuesday evening. It very much a tit for tat fist half with only a single point diving the sides at the break. But a second half Josh Mone goal was the catalyst for a strong Blayney performance as they kicked on to win by six points. Central to that victory was a scoring spree by the in-form Brendan McElroy. The opening eight minutes saw the sides exchange points twice with Blayney scores coming from Brendan and Martin McElroy. The Harps rattled the Blayney net but Blayney held firm as the team swapped two point each with Brendan McElroy accounting for Blayney’s scores and this was to add to the score fest of Brendan McElroy over this first half. Then came Blayney first goal as Brendan McElroy hit the target to level the scores at 1-4 each. As the game went into the last ten minutes of the first half Blayney sent over four points through Brendan McElroy (2), Rory McGlynn and Darren Daly while Monaghan tapped over three to leave the score at the break Blayney 1-8 Monaghan 1-7. Monaghan equalised on the turnaround then Blayney cut loose. An equalising point from Ciaran Hanratty was followed in the 6th minute by Josh Mone’s well taken goal and Blayney were on their way. They followed this with four unanswered point from Ciaran Hanratty (2) and Brendan McElroy (2) to open up an eight point Blayney lead. . The last five minutes saw Monaghan pull back a goal and point but over the same period Blayney added three more points from Kevin Macken, Josh Mone and Brendan McElroy to leave the score at the finish Blayney 2-16 Monaghan 2-9. The only downside of this impressive display was a severe injury to Blayney midfielder Barry Hanratty. Barry is wished a speedy return to the senior side. Blayney Minors Into The Final: Blayney minors comprehensive defeated Magheracloone at St Mary’s Park last Tuesday to book a place in the minor final.. This all round impressive performance by Blayney saw them hit the Magheracloone net on six occasions. Nonetheless Magheracloone never gave up the tried their case right to the final whistle. And it was Magheracloone who started the brighter side finding the Blayney net after the sides exchanged points in the opening five minutes. The impressive Niall Rice took the Blayney point. Blayney then hit 1-2 through outstanding forward Max McGinnity to open up a two point lead. But Magheracloone hit back with a second goal to reclaim the lead. Though before the break Niall Rice and Max McGinnity split the post to put Blayney ahead by a point at first water break with the score standing Blayney 1-5 Magheracloone 2-1. As play resumed Blayney extended their lead with a goal from Conor Ruddy which was quickly wiped out as Magheracloone found the Blayney net for the third time..Then Blayney stepped up the pressure to respond with a goal and four points , The goal from McGinnity and the points from Thomas Hughes (2), Niall Rice and Shay Casey. Working hard Magheracloone pulled back a point to leave the score at half time Blayney 3-9 Magheracloone 3-2. The second half saw Blayney really turn it on and score 2-5 without replay leaving no way back for the visitors. The goals came form Conor Ruddy and Max McGinnity while the points came from Max McGinnity (2), Niall Rice (3) and Conor Ruddy. Though Magheracloone managed two more points, Blayney continued to pour it on with a with goal and two points the goal coming from McGinnity.
