Field Development: As construction continues on our new floodlighting system on our new pitches we ask all coaches and players to be mindful of the plant and machinery on site, please refrain from climbing or interfering with any site machinery or materials.

A request is going out to ask coaches and parents to refrain from driving onto the walking track adjacent to the new field. There is a barrier that is continuously being removed, this is a hazard for children and also a viewing restriction for patrons when matches are on.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: Thank you to all who supported our recent Seachtain na Gaeilge event sponsored by Monaghan County Council. The bingo as Gaeilge was enjoyed by adults and children.

Scór: Thanks to Aoife McCooey for representing the club at Scór Sinsir last Friday in Emyvale singing a beautiful rendition of Grace.

Well done to our Scór Sinsir Quiz team of Barney, Vincent and Bernard McDonald & Liam McElroy. Thanks to Cremartin GFC for hosting event and for refreshments.

  •  For the Monaghan V Mayo programme, we were asked to provide information on the history of Scór in Blayney. So interesting to read the names of participants.

In 1971 two years after the origin of Scór Castleblayney Faughs won the County title in Motion Speaking.  The following year their motion speaker winner Páraic Duffy (Former Ard Stiúrthóir) won the County & Ulster title to make it to the All-Ireland.

The same year they won the County Céilí title & through the seventies the club danced its way winning 5  Céilí  and 5 Set Dancing County titles.

The first set dancing team to compete in Scór were Eamon O’Reilly, Paddy Carragher, Steven Sewell, Terry Connolly, Anna Sheridan, Maura O’ Reilly, Maria Hughes & Margaret Gillen.

Blayney also entered Scór na nÓg taking county titles in 1976 & 1977 in Céilí Dancing & Ballad Group.  The Ballad Group who reached the All-Ireland were Maria Toal, Mark Giblin, Kathy Giblin, Josephine Connell & Fintan O’Reilly.

As the 70s moved into the 80s  Blayney continued to enter competitions winning county titles in Solo Singing, Recitation, Céilí & Set Dancing, Question Time, Instrumental Music and Novelty Act.

After winning the Scór club award in 1985, the following year a young Castleblayney Ballad Group sang its way to the All-Ireland Final in Salthill. While they didn’t win it was a good dress rehearsal because just two years later they won the All-Ireland in St. Enda’s in Omagh.  The 1988 group under musical director Colette Gallen who composed the song Fág an Bealach, were Margaret Gallen, Michelle McQuillan, Denise Murphy, Martin Gallen & Helena Carragher.

Two years later the Ballad Group won the All-Ireland again in Gaiety Theatre with Andrea Gallen taking the place of her older sister Margaret.

Since those successful years Blayney have continued to enter Scór annually but with limited success.

Hopefully in the years to come we can nurture the talent and be successful again.
