Senior Championship: In what was a thrilling encounter on Saturday last, our senior men went down by a point with a last minute Clontibret goal proving decisive.
Senior Ladies: Our senior ladies came out on top in their championship semifinal versus Killanny. A game of two halves saw our girls down by nine at the break but a terrific never say die attitude whilst aided by a strong breeze saw the ladies stage a thrilling comeback to register a seven point victory. The final has been fixed for 3pm on Sunday in Drumhowan, so let’s all get out and support the ladies and help them secure their first championship title.
U12 Girls: The U12 girls faced Brigid O’Neills in the Division 2 final on Saturday last in Blackhill. A tight first half saw the Faughs girls lead by a point at the break but a strong second half showing saw the girls pull away in the end to the delight of the massive support in attendance. Very well done to the girls and their management team . The future is certainly bright.
Under 15s Make The Final: The Castleblayney Faughs under 15 side made it to the final when they defeated Carrickmacross at St Mary’s Park last Friday evening. Played in ideal conditions this was a most entertaining outing. Though Carrick started strongly, the sides were level within ten minutes at three each with the Blayney points coming from Lorcan Mone, (2) and Max McGinnity. Then a Max McGinnity goal set Blayney on the high road to victory. In a commanding victory, the second quarter saw Blayney extended that lead to six points as they added five points to Carrick’s two points with the Blayney scores coming from Max McGinnity, Canice Murphy (2) and Lorcan Mone (2) to leave the score at the break Blayney 1-9 Carrick 0-6. Then a 1-4 scoring spree by Blayney in the opening six minutes of the second half effectively sealed the game for Blayney as they opened up a thirteen point lead over the visitors with the Blayney scores coming from Tom Carey (1-0), Max McGinnity (3) and Daithí Kelly. But undeterred Carrick gallantly fought back and over the following 14 minutes hit back with 2- 3 to Blayney two points from Canice Murphy and Max McGinnity to reduce the deficit to seven points leaving the score at the second water break Blayney 2-15 Carrick 2-8. The last quarter was a ding-dong battle as both sides found the net twice but Blayney managed a one point edge in a period where Blayney scored 2-2 to Carrick’s 2-1. The Blayney goals coming from Paul McKenna and Lorcan Mone and the points from Max McGinnity and Lorcan Mone to leave the score at the finish Blayney 4-17 Carrick 4-9.
