Club Notes 13/05/2014

Seniors –The Senior team had a relatively good week, they started with a good win over local neighbours Doohamlet last Wednesday night, followed by a hard earned draw versus Clontibret on Sunday afternoon. The performances have been improving over the last few weeks, with some very good passages of play in the last few league games. This Sunday at 2 o’clock, the senior team will make the short trip to Aughnamullen for the first round of the Senior Championship to play Ballybay. While Ballybay will go in as favourite, one would be foolish to write of the Famous Green and Gold at Championship time. Best of luck to everyone involved, can we ask that all supporters come out to cheer on the team. We will return to league action with a home game against Magherclone on Wednesday 23rd of May with a throw in time of 8pm.

The Reserve Team – With the Senior league taking priority, the Reserve team haven’t been in action since their opening round victory in the Championship versus the Harps. The next match for the Reserve team is against Ballybay in St. Marys Park on Sunday 25th of May with a 12.30 throw in. The next round of the Championship is a home game against neighbours Cremartin on Sunday 8th of June in St. Marys Park, throw in is down for 3pm.

Minors – The boys played Latton at home last Tuesday night and put in a good performance on the night with an eight point win. In a game which moved up and down St. Marys Park, the Green and Gold boys stuck to their task with some excellent performances from Jason Walsh, David Hughes and substitute Keith Smith. The results now see the boys move up to fourth place in the table on eight points, with Corduff leading the way on ten points. The team now take a break so the boys can concentrate on their upcoming exams, training arrangements will be communicated by text over the next few days.

Under 16 Boys – The boys have two more games before the exam break, with the first of these games on this Thursday the 15th of May, being an away match to Patrick Emmett’s in Scotshouse at 7.30pm before their final league game on the 22nd of May at home to Doohamlet at 7.30pm.This team have shown great improvements since the beginning of the year so if your about on a Thursday evening why not pop along to see them.

Under 14 Boys – The Boys return to action after their defeat to Killanny on Tuesday the 20th of May at 7pm.The boys require a win to get them back on track after their disappointing result last time out.

Under 12 – The last round of games of this year’s Spring League took place when the young Faughs travelled to Latton last Saturday. First up were the Development team, who put in a great shift, showing their skills and ability to the large number of parents in attendance .On a day when everything went well for the team there were some good performances from Pauric Bolger, Joe Carey and Jodie McQuillan. The team finished second in their group. Next up were the Senior team and after ten minutes they looked comfortably in control, with the team using the strong breeze to good effect, at half time the boys were four scores up .The second half saw a resurgent Latton pile the pressure on the boys and with three minutes to go they drew level but these young Faughs are made of tough stuff, with firstly Conall McHugh followed by Niall Rice notching two wonderful points to see the boys win. Best on the days for the young Faughs were Conor McCooey , Ian Kindlon, and Conor Mulligan. Next up for two Under 12 teams will be the County Finals day in Cloghan on Saturday 24th of May. Well done boys, there have been some great performances so far this year; let’s keep it up at training.

Under 12 Girls – The girls under 12 team travel the short distance to Cloghan last Saturday to play in the Ulster Blitz, we were able to field two teams both of whom competed extremely well, against strong opposition like Clan Na Gael from Armagh, Dungiven from Derry and Donaghmoyne. These girls are putting in a great effort and are definitely a team to watch out for in the future.

Under 10 Boys – The Under 10 have a great morning football lined up this Saturday morning when the Club host round two of the Go Games Series, the boys will play against Clontibret, Scotsown, Traugh and Sean Mc Dermott’s. Throw in will be at 10am and we would encourage as many parents and supporters as possible to come out and support the stars of the future.

Championship Double header – After a number of years, St Marys Park makes a welcome return to the County Championship Venue list, this Sunday evening see Latton taken on Doohamlet at 5.45pm while Clontibret will play the Harps in the second game with a throw in time of 7.15pm.We welcome everyone along to our magnificently re-developed ground and hopefully you will have an enjoyable evening regardless of your teams results . Stewards will be contacted about the briefing during the week.

The numbers drawn were 2, 13, 24 and 26 and the two lucky dip winners of €50 each were Mickey McGuigan and Gary O’Connor. Last week’s lucky dip winners were Kian O’Connor and Bernard McDonald.
