Senior league: Blayney went down by four points in their second outing in the senior league when they were defeated by Clontibret  2-12 to 1-11 at a sun drenched  Clontibret last Saturday afternoon.  With six minutes to go it was all square at  1-10 each. But a goal by Clontibret in the 30th minute effectively decided the issue. Blayney’s Ronan McNamara opened the scoring with a point but Clontibret hit back strongly scoring three points on the trot. However by the 8th minute it was level pegging as Blayney’s  Brendan McElroy and Robbie Hanratty hit points apiece.  Clontibret nosed ahead in the 12th minute and then hit a goal  three minutes later to open up a four point lead for the home side at the first water break. But on resumption of play Blayney  hit back strongly  with a point from Brendan McElroy followed by a great goal from Barry Hanratty who came thundering from the middle of the park to level the scores once more. But it was in the final five minutes of the first half that Clontibret orchestrated a great recovery to hit four points in row to leave the score at half time Clontibret  1-8 Blayney 1-4. On the turnaround  Blayney made magnificent recovery and dominated the third quarter as they sent over five unanswered points through Robbie Hanratty (2), Barry Hanratty and two outstanding long range frees from goalkeeper Kieran Duffy to put the Faughs into a one point lead.  It was short lived as Clontibret responded with two points to go back in  front. Then  in the 25th minute  Robbie Hanratty  equalised  and it looked like a grand stand finish was on the cards.  Though Clontibret nosed ahead still the game was still on a knife edge.  But when Clontibret hit their second goal in the 30th minute  that was the deciding factor. They followed this up with two more points and though Blayney’s Brendan McElroy sent over, it was too little too late. Blayney Team: Kieran Duffy, Fergal Malone, Mark Hanratty, Kieran McEneaney, Gavin Kelly, Darren Daly, Mark Kelly, Barry Hanratty (1-1),Rory McGlynn, Robbie Hanratty (0-4), Josh Mone, Joey Hughes, David McMahon, Ronan McNamara (0-1), Brendan McElroy (0-3). Subs used : Ciaran Hanratty, Conal McHugh.

Senior Reserve  League: Only in the final minutes was the outcome decided as Blayney went down by two points when they came up against Aughnamullen in the very competitive Senior Reserve League game in Aughnamullen on Monday evening.   It was close fought affair to the finish with Aughnamullen having the edge over most of the hour. It was a tit for tat opening with only a point between the sides at the end of the first quarter with Aughnamullen 0-5 to Blayney 0-4. Blayney scorers were Ronan McNamara (2), Gavin Kelly and Kevin Macken .  Aughnamullen pushed on in the second quarter to open up  a three point lead at half time  as they added four points to their first quarter tally while Blayney only managed two to leave the score at the interval Aughnamullen  0-9 Blayney 0-6. In the opening three minutes of the second half Blayney narrowed the gap to a single point with scores from David Irwin and Cian O’Connor. But an energetic Aughnamullen forward line stretched their lead to three points once again. Though  Aidan McElroy pulled back a point,  Aughnamullen’s Martin Sheridan struck for a great Aughnamullen goal  on the verge of the second water break leaving it Aughnamullen  1-11 Blayney 0-9.  Another Aughnamullen point opened up a six lead for the home side and  Blayney looked to have a mountain to climb in the last quarter to rescue the situation. But they rose to the occasion. As the sides exchanged points with Ronan McNamara hitting the Blayney score, the game was dramatically up for grabs when David Irwin hit the Aughnamullen net to reduce  the deficit to three points with ten minutes left on the clock. While Aughnamullen  opened up a fur point lead Blayney continued to the press their case and when David Irwin was taken down for penalty which Kevin Macken put away, the Aughnamullen lead was now cut to a single points with two minutes to go. It was a helter-skelter final minutes period but Aughnamullen managed a safety point to leave the score at the finish Aughnamullen 1-15 Blayney 2- 10.
