Club Notes: June 21st 2016

Faughs Friday Walking Club: As part of our 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, our Club wanted to extend their healthy club initiative and enrich the lives of every member of the local community. One such initiative is a walking/social activity which began two weeks ago. Each Friday walkers meet at 11.00am in St.Marys’ Park, to be followed by a social ‘cuppa’ in the Club Rooms. The only cost involved is the payment of the Club’s Annual Social Membership, which ensures every person is covered by Insurance. You are earnestly encouraged and welcome to join this club activity and meet and chat with old and new friends.

Senior League: The Senior team were scheduled to play this Sunday with a game away to Carrick on with a 1.30pm throw in, however due to the County Hurlers being out on Sunday this game has been postponed. We are awaiting confirmation of the fixture; we will keep everyone updated on social media during the week.

Junior B: The B team continued their winning form last Sunday when they defeated Emyvale on a score line of Faughs 4-14 Emyvale 1-5. Best on the day were Kevin Mackin with a personal total of 2-3 (apologies to Kevin as his score wasn’t recorded on twitter during the game so we hope this makes up for it), Damien Hughes, young Mark Hughes and the not so young Ray McArdle. The next game for the lads is an away trip to Ballybay on Sunday 3rd of July with a throw in time of 3pm.

50/50: This week’s draw will take place tonight so watch social media for winner. “Remember if you’re not in you can’t win” Tickets are available to purchases in McMahons Supervalu at the weekend and off a Club Seller on Saturday night around the town.

Know Your Sport: Well done to the people who had the faith to back Dustin Johnstown to win the US Open Golf last weekend even if he did pip our won Shane Lowry, Johnston win gives an additional 550 points which see the leader table open up. The leaders are as follows: Pat Lenaghan 900, Bernie McHugh 900, PJ Meehan 900, with a raft of people following on 750 points, the next leader board will appear after Leinster hurling final between Kilkenny and Galway on July 3rd best of luck to everyone involved.

Boys Under 8: Thursday night saw the young Under 8 boys take part in Go Games in Drumhowan, they played against Drumhowan, Donaghmoyne and Aughnamullen; they played really well in all games showing some great determination and skill right throughout the morning, well done boys.

Boys Under 12: On Wednesday evening the U12 Senior Team played host to Carrick in a top of the Table Division 1 clash. Carrick were fast out of the blocks, racing into a 2-5 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes. But one thing this young team does not lack is character, determination and a will to succeed, and by half team they had reduced the deficit to 4 points 3-5 to 4-6. The young lads kept the pressure on Carrick in the 2nd half and lay siege to the Carrick goal, and with less than 2 minutes remaining moved a point ahead 5-8 to 4-10. Unfortunately they were very unlucky to concede two rather fortuitous goals in the last minute, with Carrick winning the contest by 5 points on a final score Faughs 5-8 Carrick 6-10. Teams: Brandon McCague, Shea Casey, Ross Maguire, Ultan Mc Mahon, Arnus Gleeson, Martin Joyce, Thomas Hughes, Nathan McArdle, Conor Ruddy, Daniel Mc Shane, Jamie Ward, Sean Bishop, Niall Rice, Cian Malone, Ionut Lungu. This year the Camp Coordinator is former Faughs Centre Forward and County Coaching Games Officer Paul O’Connor, for further details check the Monaghan GAA website, Brian Sherry on 086 2334287 or Paul O’Connor 086 837 4827.

Best of Luck: This weekend we wish our County Players the best of luck in their Ulster Senior Semi Final against Cavan; at 5pm Joshua Walsh will represent the Club with the County Minor team while Dermot Malone will represent the Club at the Senior Grade. Hopefully we can get a result in both games.

Well Done: This week well done goes out to Kian O’Connor and Craig Callan who have been picked on the Ulster Under 16 Development squad, the lads will head away now for a couple of days intensive training which will no doubt will be of benefit to the boys and the cub in the long run.
