Club Notes, Nov 1st 2016

Senior Men: The Senior Team play their League Semi Final away against Monaghan Harps this Sunday 6th of November 2pm, the expectations are that this will be a tight match with both sides drawing in St.Marys Park in round seven last May while the Harps were victorious in Gavan Duffy Park by a point last July and again in the back door of the Championship last August, also by a point. Hopefully the lads can raise their game and put in a performance which will be good enough to advance the team through to the Final. Can we ask for all Faughs supporters to come along and cheer on the team.

Minor Girls Semi Final: This Saturday see the Minor Girls play at home against Carrick in the Minor League Semi Final with a 2pm throw in time, this is a great achievement for both the Girls and the Club as we only started with Girls football four years ago. Can we ask as many people who are available to come out and support the Girls on Saturday afternoon.

Operation TransFAUGHSmation: Last Saturday saw the Team Tom Versus Team Jazza Cycle take place in the Glencarn Shopping Centre, there was another big turn out as people peddled their way to raising money for Castleblayney Cancer Society, SOSAD and Castleblayney Tidy Towns, we will confirm the final amount raised once all donations are in but we are delighted with the overall response on the day.

McMahon Supervalu 5K: The Club were delighted yet again last week as they announced that McMahons Supervalu have come on board as the main sponsor of the Castleblayney 5K walk/run which happens on Sunday the 27th of November at 2pm. The McMahons Supervalu Castleblayney 5K which is now in its sixth year has proven to be one of the biggest events in the local community as well as an established event for all local athletes. This year’s event will change slightly, there will be a 2K race for all children Under 14 starting at 1pm while the main race will follow at 2pm. We are asking that every Club member participates on the day, registration is available online at www.castleblayneyfaughs.com or www.Runireland.com.

50/50: Eric McDonagh was this week’s winner of our 50/50 draw winning himself €150. Tickets for next weeks draw will be available in the Shopping Centre on Saturday morning.

Faughs Juvenile Winter Programme: The Faughs Juvenile winter programme continues each week, to date we have had great numbers at all levels with fun and skill development been very much part of the programme, if you know of any young child in your area who wants to start can you get Mammy/Daddy to take them along to the relevant training session. Everybody is more than welcome to attend, we are only delighted to see new faces. Under 6’s in Rath Na Og from 6-6.50pm, Under 8’s from 6-7pm and Under 10’s from 7-8pm , both on Our Lady’s Secondary School Astro Turf or contact Brian Sherry (086- 2334287) or Melissa Conlon (087 7617216).

Juvenile Presentation: The Club will be running their Juvenile Presentation on Friday the 18th of November in the Glencarn Hotel starting at 7.30pm; we will be distributing all the Winners medals for 2015 and 2016 up to Under 16 level. Can we ask that all players and parents attend for what is always a special evening in the Club Calendar.

Club Development Plan: Following last week’s Senior Executive meeting we have now signed off each of the individual subcommittee plans and will over the course of the next few weeks start the process of getting them printed up for the final booklet. The next phase we are entering is the development of the actual Sub Committees, if you feel that you have something to add or have a couple of free hours each month then please contact Stephen Dignam 087 2246579 or Melissa Conlon 087 7617216, we would be delighted to see new faces and would really appreciate new help on any committee.

Ulster Coaching Conference: The 13th O’Neill’s Ulster GAA Coaching & Games Development Conference will take place on Saturday 12th November 2016 in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan. The theme is “Club” and “Player Pathway”. This year there is an extremely strong line up with the Guest Speaker – Jack O Connor, with workshops on the player pathway. Tickets are €30 and can be bought on line on www.ulster.gaa.ie/conferences2016/

Well Done: This week’s well done goes out to all the local people who completed the Dublin Marathon, we had a number of club members running the 26.2 mile route including Ireland Fastest GAA Chairperson who completed the run in a personal best of 2:58:20 and a very large contingent from the Blayney Rockets, well done to each and every one of you. Well done also to all the people from Operation TransFAUGHSmation who cycled their way to raising much needed money for three local charities last Saturday, speaking from experience I just hope that everyone had soft cushions to sit on last Saturday evening.
