Mc Mahon Supervalu renews its sponsorship for the Castleblayney 5K Walk/Run
Castleblayney Faughs are delighted yet again to announce that Mc Mahon Supervalu have come on board as the main sponsor of the eighth Castleblayney 5 K walk/run happens on Sunday the 24th of November at 2pm. The Supervalu Castleblayney 5K has proven to be one of the biggest events in the local community as well as an established event for all local athletes. The walk/run, which traditionally marks the end of the 12-week training programme called “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” was put in place as a target for the participants to test their fitness by either walking or running the route. This year the fitness programme has attracted over 180 participants and it’s anticipated with the progress they have made to date, that all 180 will be able to complete the challenge.
This year the event will also see the return of the 2K route for all the Children under 14 at 1pm while the Senior Race over the longer 5K distance will get underway at the usual time of 2pm.

Pete Mc Mahon owner of Mc Mahon Supervalu was delighted to once again be associated with such a great event, speaking at the launch on Monday evening Pete outlined that “The Castleblayney 5K and indeed Operation TransFAUGHSmation are great community events and both seem to be constantly growing. Last year’s race was a great success attracting a large crowd of people to the town and events like this allow us to demonstrate to the wider area the great community spirit that exists in Castleblayney. Health and Wellness are key elements of the Supervalu offering so the brands association with events like the Castleblayney 5K Run/Walk are a perfect fit for us.”
Pete who has recently returned to training after injury has set himself a personal goal of trying to get around the course again in front of his good friend and Club Referee Raymond Malone but more importantly Pete is keen to get as many local people involved on the day and has also enrolled over twenty five of the Supevalu staff to sign up for the 5K on the 24th of November .
Operation TransFAUGHSmation leader and former Faughs Star Tom Miller who delivers the fitness programme expressed his sincere gratitude to Pete: “Mc Mahons Supervalu is a great supporter to so many community events, we really appreciate the support the Faughs Club receive from Pete. Without sponsorship, events like ours would not be able to take place, it also allows us to do other things which improve the experience for the Runner/Walkers such as chipping the race. Last year our Juvenile Race was a great success with the support of the local schools we ended up with over 150 runners on the day. It’s a great target for all the younger children”.
The Mc Mahons Supervalu Castleblayney 5K is open to everyone and the Faughs club very much encourages all locals to don their runners and join in the fun – the run is a real good community day. Further details on the event will be published over the next number of weeks.

Registration is available online at www.castleblayneyfaughs.com or www.runireland.com, so please dust down the runners and keep Sunday 24th of November at 2pm free so you too can participate.
