Castleblayney Faughs are delighted yet again to announce that McMahons Supervalu have come on board as the main sponsor of the Castleblayney 5K walk/run happens on Sunday the 29th of November at 2pm. The Supervalu Castleblayney 5K which is now in its fifth year has proven to be one of the biggest events in the local community as well as an established event for all local athletes. The walk/run, which traditionally marks the end of the 12-week training programme called “Operation TransFAUGHSmation” was put in place as a target for the participants to test their fitness by either walking or running the route. This year the fitness programme has attracted it largest crowd of over 250 participants and it’s anticipated with the progress they have made to date, that all 250 will be able to complete the challenge.
The event which has now become part of the calendar of the Castleblayney area, has developed each year with an increased number of runners competing at every event while also attracting such fitness celebrities as Gerry Duffy, Catherina Mc Kiernan, Ken Whitelaw, Pat Divilly and Dr Niall Moyna for the questions and answers session in the Glencarn Hotel directly after the run.
Pete McMahon, owner of McMahon Supervalu, was delighted to once again be associated with such a great event, speaking at the launch on Monday evening Pete outlined “The Castleblayney 5K and indeed Operation TransFAUGHSmation are great community events and both seem to be constantly growing. Last year race was a great success with over 800 people coming to town, events like this allow us to demonstrate to wider area the great community spirit that exist in Castleblayney. Health and Wellness are key elements of the Supervalu offering so the brands association with events like the Castleblayney 5K Run/Walk are a perfect fit for us.” Pete who is a keen runner is currently returning from injury and hopes to be in a position to defend his own record of been the quickest runner in the Supervalu Team.
Operation TransFAUGHSmation leader and former Faughs Star Tom Miller who delivers the fitness programme expressed his sincere gratitude to Pete, “McMahons Supervalu is a great supporter to so many community events; we really appreciate the support the Faughs Club receives from Pete. Without sponsorship events like ours won’t be able to take place, it also allows us to do other things which improve the experience for the Runner/Walkers such as chipping the race”
The McMahons Supervalu Castleblayney 5K is open to everyone and the Faughs club very much encourage all locals to don their runners and join in on the fun, the run is a real good community day. Further details on the event will be published over the next number of weeks.
