The U12 Senior team took to the field last Wednesday evening against Clontibret, in what turned out to be a close fought exciting encounter between two well matched teams. The Faughs settled well, and two Ross Maguire points edged the Faughs into an early advantage. Clontibret hit back quickly with two unanswered points to draw level. Both sides continued to trade scores in a see-saw first half, and towards half time Clontibret found the Faughs net to Lead by 4, 1-6 to 0-5. The Faughs made some positional switches and introduced the young Cian Malone and Jamie Ward. Clontibret extended their lead to 5 points early in the second half. The Faughs hit back with a Conor Ruddy goal to reduce the deficit to 2 points after a fine free flowing move. The reintroduction of Ross Maguire and the move of Ultan McMahon to full forward paid immediate dividends as Ross found the net to edge the Faughs in front by a point. Clontibret then scored what looked like a match winning goal to edge ahead by 2 points, with 4 minutes remaining. Once again these young Faughs lads showed real character and determination, as they scored 1-1 in the final few minutes with Kevin Flanagan finding the net after more excellent build up play involving the influential Thomas Hughes. An excellent stop by Faughs keeper Brandon Mc Cague in the dying seconds ensured the Faughs emerged victorious in a nail biting finale. Final Score Faughs 3-7, Clontibret 2-8.
