Castleblayney Faugh’s notes week beginning 01/08/2022

Seniors Men: Our seniors start the 2022 championship campaign with a home game in the round robin league against Inniskeen this Saturday evening, throw-in 7.00.

Best wishes to all our teams as they begin their championship campaigns in the coming weeks.

Our Reserve men took on Tyholland in the FRC McKeown Cup Final in Cremartin on Friday evening past.  We controlled much of the first half and deservedly went in at half time 2-06 to 1-04 up, with Conor Ruddy showing well on the scoreboard. The second half started well, but when we went down to 14 men the game changed. Tyholland took control and despite some fierce defending they clawed their way back into the game and went into the lead for the first time in the 31st minute of the second half.  It wasn’t to be for us and the game finished Castleblayney 2-10, Tyholland 2-11.  Congratulations to Tyholland.

Despite the defeat this young team can take a lot of positives from their performances throughout the season and will stand to them in the coming years as they progress through the senior ranks.

Starting 15: Paraic McBennett, Ultan McMahon, Ultan Brady, Cillian Hanratty, Calum Campbell, Mark McMahon(captain), Mark Hughes, Ben Mallon, Declan Hughes, Conor Ruddy, Thomas Hughes, Kealan McMahon, Odhran McArdle, Niall Rice, Johnny Murtagh.

U15’s: Our Div1 team had a great win in the League final on Thursday last against a very determined Clontibret team. Played in great conditions in Drumhowan, the Faughs side overcame a very slow start and found themselves behind for most of the first quarter. They gradually took control as the half wore on and held a narrow lead at the interval. The second half say Clontibret once again start well but they found themselves reduced to 14 early on and this allowed Blayney take control once again. A goal midway through the half day Blayney take control that they held to the end and John Flanagan accepted the cup on behalf of the team and mgt in front of a large Blayney support.

On the Friday it was the turn of the 3rd team who played Aughnamullen in their shield final. Blayney started very well, playing some lovely football and held the lead at half time despite a strong Aughnamullen comeback. The second half was nip and took with a heavy shower making playing conditions tough. As the game entered the closing stages, Aughnamullen used their bench well to take control and went ahead for the first time as the game entered the final stages. They secured a 4pt win with a goal as the whistle went. This was hard luck on a very young Blayney team who have improved with each game this year and they will look forward to their championship in the coming weeks. Good luck to all the players who will all be involved with the 2nd team in their final this Friday V Clontibret.
