Castleblayney Faugh’s notes week beginning 11/04/2022

Fixtures Seniors: Faugh’s v Donaghmoyne in Donaghmoyne, on Wednesday 13th April at 7:15pm in the Reserve Football League Division 3 Platinum Tanks Round 2. Following game v Killany on Wednesday 20th April in Killanny, throw in at 7:15pm.

Senior Ladies: The Senior Ladies travelled to play Sean McDermotts in the Reserve League on Sunday the 10th. The team were short a number of regulars but showed the benefit of a good panel and came away with both leagues points after a 3. 9 to 2. 5 win. Sean’s came back very strong in the last quarter to leave the Faughs ladies with some nervy moments but the Castleblayney girls held on to secure a good victory against a strong Sean’s team.

U19’s: Our U19 men hosted Scotstown at the weekend.  In a thrilling game the Faughs were  stronger in the first half and deservedly went in at half time 1-06 to 0-03 up courtesy of a smart Niall Rice finish to the net.  Things changed dramatically at the start of the second half with the Scotstown men reeling of multiple scores  in quick succession to leave it 3-05 to 1-07 in the 40th minute.  Then goalkeeper Martin Joyce made his way up the field to coolly finish a penalty and kickstart our second half.  The game proceeded to ebb and flow and at the end, with the help of a spectacular Sean Bishop lob, we just about got over the line on a scoreline of 3-08 to 3-07.  Next up is a home match against Latton this Sunday, 17th April, throw-in 2.00pm.

U17’s: Faugh’s v Emyvale in the U17 Spring League, round 2 at St. Mary’s Park, Castleblayney on Tuesday 19th April at 7:15pm.

U16’s: The girls travelled to Truagh for their second league game. A great start with fast movement of ball saw us up 5 goals very quickly.  Truagh regrouped and delivered some great goals to bring the half time score line 5-4 to 5-2 in favour of Blayney. Second half was a hard fought with every player fighting tooth and nail.  With 2 points down Blayney were awarded a penalty which was converted.  Another point was added to give the girls a massive win.

Next match is at home next Monday 18th April against Aughnamullen.

U15’s: U15s boys had three games during the week gone and all teams performed very well for the first outing of the year.  The Div1 team had a great battling win away to Corduff on Thursday last. Getting off to a blistering start, the determined home side soon got back into game and had a long fruitful spell drawing them level midway through the second half. But the Faughs showed some great character again to pull away and hold out for a 4-09 to 2-09 victory. They face Carrickmacross next at home on Thursday night, 14th April at 7:15pm. Following game is Wednesday 20th April against Truagh at home, throw in 7:30pm

The Div5A team travelled to Maghercloone on Friday last with an under strength side and while they battled hard, a number of missed chances proved costly against a more efficient home side who ran out winners on the night. They host Scotstown this a Friday night, 15th April at home, at 7:!5pm.

The Div5B side faced Corduff at home on Wednesday last and similar to the 5A side, failure to take their chance proved costly. But this is a very young team and they can take great heart from their determined display as Corduffs bench made an impact late on to take the points. They face Aughnamullen away on Wednesday night.

Well done to all players involved and their displays bodes well for the season ahead.
