Castleblayney Faugh’s notes week beginning 18/04/2022

Seniors Men: Our second Reserve team took on Donaghmoyne last week in an away match.  With a few players missing some of the lads had to play in different positions in a make shift team but that didn’t seem to affect the team too much.  Ultan McMahon kicked the first point but despite plenty of possession and some great football we were only up by a goal at half time, with the evergreen Christopher Cronin raising scoring the major. In the second half it was touch and go before Kealan scored a quick 1-02 to put Castleblayney firmly in control.  Unlike the first half the lads had their shooting boots on to leave the final score Donaghmoyne 1-09 Castleblayney 4-10. Another good performance from the team.

U16’s: U16 girls played away tonight to near neighbours Aughnamullen. The home team started strong getting a few quick scores but our young ladies grew in confidence and started adding up their own scores to leave it 6-3 to 5-2 in favour of Aughnamullen at half time.   The second half continued in the same form and scores exchanged each way in a free-flowing game. At the end of an entertaining and competitive game Aughnamullen came away the winners on a final score of 9-5 to 7-4.

U15’s: The U15 group had a very good week with all 3 teams recording wins.

The 1st team played an under-strength Carrick team and ran out comfortable winners, playing some lovely football along the way. Next game sees Faugh’s v Monaghan Harps in Monaghan on Thursday 21st April at 7:30pm in the 2022 U15 League Bogues Foodhall Monaghan Division 1 Round 3.

The second team played Scotstown on Friday evening and got their first league win of the year. They worked extremely hard to see off the visitors challenge with good performances throughout. Next game sees Faugh’s v Aughnamullen at St. Mary’s Park on Friday 22nd April at 7:30pm in the 2022 U15 League Bogues Foodhall Monaghan Division 5A Round 3.

The performance of the week belonged to the 3rd team who travelled to Aughnamullen. Falling behind by 7 points midway through the second half, this young team battled to the end and ran out winners by 12 points with a flurry of late scores. They face Truagh on Sunday 24th April morning at St. Mary’s Park at 12 noon.
