Club Registration Day – This Saturday, the 12th of April sees the Castleblayney Faughs hold their annual Club registration evening in St Marys Park. The registration evening will commence at 3pm in the afternoon and will continue right up to 7pm, leaving Club members the opportunity to pay their membership and then attend the first league match in the new 2,000 covered seated stand. This new approach is a one day event for people to come forward and pay their annual membership either as a player, coach, adult or social member and we will also be collecting any outstanding Cairde memberships due for 2014. We have recently seen the introduction of the new insurance scheme from Croke Park which will only cover fully paid up members of the Club , so it is in everyones interest to make sure that they are fully paid members of their own GAA Club. Our membership rates are great value with Family Membership costing €30, an Adult membership costing €20 while a Juvenile Under 18’s costs €10. We hope to see lots of members coming out on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Team – The senior team get their league campaign up and running this Saturday night with a home game against Scotstown. This match is yet another milestone in the Faughs development as the Club opens it fantastic new 2,000 covered seated stand, we hope that you can all make the effort to come out to the field to cheer on the Senior team from the comforts of the new facility. The Players, under the watchful eye of Declan Loughman, have been working hard over the last few months and are looking forward to getting into action.
Reserve Team – The reserve team had a disappointing defeat away to Cremartin , forced to field without several regulars, the Faughs raced into an early six point lead before the Shamrocks drew level at half time. The second half saw the Faughs rally again and with five minutes to go, they were a point up but a late Cremartin penalty insured a narrow defeat for the Green and Gold.
Minor Team – The Minor Team travelled out to Oram last Tuesday evening to play in the Parish Derby with Emerald Sarfields (Blackhill/Oram) providing the opposition. This was the first game for the Faughs lads and it showed in the boy’s first touch in the opening thirty minutes. The team management led by Jazza Hughes got the boys settled at half time and the introduction of Big Pierce Callaghan proved a decisive change as the Faughs stepped up a gear to run out worthy winners. Best on the night for the Faughs were John Beattie, Brandon Rice , Mark Connors and Pierce Callaghan. The Boys played Corduff away on Tuesday night, check website, facebook for the results.
Under 16 Boys – The Boys opening game against Tyholland was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch, tonight see the Boys play Killeavin with a throw in time of 6.30 in St Marys Park .
Under 16 Girls – The girls have a home game against Inniskeen this Thursday night in Blackhill at 6.45pm, no doubt we will have one person in a bright green jacket up above roaring us on.
Under 14 Boys – We had a home game last Saturday against Donaghmoyne and played well at times during the game, with some very good play, although we know we will have to work on our shooting. The team continues to progress nicely with some good performances coming from Colm Bishop, Craig Callan, Stephen Beattie and Francis Mc Geough. Next up for the Under 14’s will be a home game against Latton on Saturday 19th of April , throw in time 12pm.
Under 14 Girls – The girls opened their season in Division two with a home game against Latton on Tuesday night. After a good start in which the girls worked really hard, they fell behind to a couple of quick goals by Latton , trailing by four points at half time. The young Faughs girls started the second half with great determination but unfortunately couldn’t convert their good possession into scores. Latton then produced a brace of goals which put them beyond reach. There were some good performances from Lisa Rooney, Eleanor Doyle and Sally Maloney. Next fixture will be confirmed during the week with Mickey Conlon.
Under 12 Boys – With no competitive fixtures this weekend, the team travel down to Scotstown on Friday evening to play a challenge game for both teams. Overall there were a number of very good performances on both the Senior and Development teams. We have a Bye this weekend in the Under 12 competition and the management team are looking to get a challenge game organised. Next competitive fixture for the boys will be against Donaghmoyne on Saturday 26th of April.
Under 12 Girls – The Community games team travelled to Donaghmoyne last Saturday to play in the first game of the competition, the game was very tight with both teams having a number of good players on display. Two quick goals before half time opened up a gap for the Donaghmoyne girls but credit to this young Blayney team as they battled right to the very end. Best on the day for the Girls were Jodie McQuillan, Melissa Carr and Kaitlin Collins was excellent in goals .The Girls play Kilanny on Wednesday night at 6pm, with everyone leaving the field at 5.15pm. Check website for details. We will play Aughnamullen in our last game with the venue and time to be confirmed during the week.
Well done– Last week saw Scoile Mhuire Na mBuachailli win the Schools Sevens Competition for the second year running, this is a great achievement for both the School and the Club as the panel was made up of young Faughs lads. Further evidence of the good work going on between the School and the Football Club, well done to Master Mc Eneaney and all the boys. Well done also to Monaghan County Senior Team on their promotion to Division 1 for 2015, next up for Dermot and Marty will be the Division 2 final on Sunday 27th of April.
