Senior Team –The Seniors had a much improved performance in the Championship last Sunday, when they took on Donaghmoyne in Clontibret. The Faughs were slow to start and Donaghmoyne took full advantage kicking five points to lead by three after twenty minutes, but points from Brendan McElroy and Ciaran Hanratty saw the Faughs take the lead on the stroke of half time. The second half started with Donaghmoyne scoring their second goal of the game but the Faughs responded well with points from Padraig Greene, John Beattie and Ciaran Hanratty before a Brendan McElroy goal and a second Faughs goal by Ciaran Hanratty sealed the deal. Well done to the team who responded well over the course of the week. We now play Traugh in Emyvale next Saturday evening with a throw in time of 8pm. Can we ask that as many people travel as possible to cheer the team on.
Girls Under 8 & 10 – We have organised a challenge game for the Girls away to Scotstown on Saturday 19th of September. We will update you with details closer to the time.
Boys Under 8 – The Boys travelled to Clones for the Under 8 all county Go Games last Saturday. We entered three teams which included some of the under seven teams and they all played really well. There will be another round of Go Games this Saturday in Clontibret, so we will leave St Mary’s Park at 9.15am and should be back around 12.15. Again can we ask as many parents to attend as possible.
Boys Under 10 – The boys are travelling to Clontibret this Saturday where we play in the Go Games series. We will play Clontibret, Carrick and Aughnamullen, so we will leave St Mary’s Park at 9.15am and return around 12.15. Can we ask as many parents to attend as possible.
Girls Under 12 – Theses young ladies continued their good league performances with a very hard earned victory over Carrick last Sunday evening, winning on a score line of Carrick 1-6 Faughs 2-8. This win guarantees the girls a semi-final place on Wednesday 9th of September. We await to see who we play next. A huge well done to the Girls, another good weeks work please keep it going.
Boys Under 11 – The Boys are now entered into the prestigious BC Tournament in Emyvale on Saturday 19th of September. We will organise the training schedule for this group over the next few days. Boys just remember to keep practicing the basic skills at home in the meantime.
Boys Under 14 – At the time of writing the notes we are unsure of the date of the Under 14 Semi Finals. With so much happening, finding a suitable date is proofing difficult so we will keep everyone informed of the semi-final fixtures once they have been confirmed.
Girls Under 14 – Unfortunately, our U14 Girls Championship Match against Tyholland did not go ahead last Friday evening. The game has been re-fixed for Wednesday the 2nd September at 7 p.m. in Tyholland. All support would be greatly appreciated.
Boys Under 16 – Last Thursday night the Faughs U16’s lined out against near neighbours Cremartin, who were determined to avenge two defeats suffered at the hands of this Faughs team during the group stages. And so it proved the Faughs may have got off to a great start with Gavin Kelly rattling the net, but this Cremartin team were fired up and immediately set about reeling back in the Blayney lead, ended up heading in at the break with a two point lead which would have been much more were it not for three great saves from Cian O’Connor and some hard work outfield from Mark Hughes. In the second half Craig Callan and Stephen Beattie established a foothold at midfield and ensured a good supply into Josh Mone and Josh Walsh, who got some great scores. They received great support from Mark Hughes and Robbie Hanratty who both constantly showed for and won hard ball and also chipped in with scores of their own. Colin Merrick, Ryan McKernan and Gavin Kelly shut up shop at the back limiting opportunities for a very skillful Cremartin attacking lineup. David Irwin worked the length of the field from half back and showed some great instinctive shooting. It was a case of the old cliche, a game of two halves with the team definitely needing their 2nd half performance going forward when they take on a very strong Clontibret team in the final this Thursday evening with a throw in time of 7pm.
Girls Under 16 – Our U16 Girls play Doohamlet this Saturday at 5pm.The venue has yet to be confirmed and we will keep everyone updated with the details when we receive them. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls in their first year as an established U16 team and we wish them well as they attempt to take some silver ware back to St Mary’s Park on Saturday evening.
Minor Girls – The Girls followed their great win last week with another one, when they travelled to Inniskeen last Monday night. Ellen Hamilton excelled in goals with Niamh Clarke having an excellent game at full back. Up front Jessica Cullen and Orla Maguire showed their class right throughout the game. The Girls next two games are both home games, the first will be against Sean’s on Sunday 13th of September with a throw in time of 5pm, with our next league games in St Mary’s Park on Sunday 20th of September versus Killeevan at 7pm. Ladies keep up the great work, two more wins and we should make the semi-finals.
