Senior Champioship: Blayney went down fighting last Sunday when Scotstown pipped them by a goal in the senior Championship at St Mary’s Park.  Though defeated they restored a lot of pride in their jersey as they opted for a fast moving, attacking game . They quickly got the ball rolling with two points from free taker Robbie Hanratty. Then Scotstown hit a ten minute purple patch which saw them hit 1-4 on the trot, with Blayney getting caught on the overlap for Scotstown’s Francie Maguire to find the Blayney net and this effectively cushioned them  against the Faughs resurgence . That Blayney revival started ten minutes from the end of the first half when Blayney sent over five points to Scotstown two  with Ciaran Hanratty winning three marks  from which he sent over and the other two points came from Marty McElroy  and Mark Treanor leaving the score at half time Scotstown  1-6 Blayney 0-7. Two second half opening points by Scotstown saw them extend their lead to four points. Then Blayney and Scotstown exchanged points on four occasions with Blayney’s four points coming from Darren Daly, Robbie Hanratty (2)  and Mark Hanratty leaving that solitary goal dividing the sides as the game moved into the last ten minutes. It was tough , tenacious and uncompromising as both sides battled to the last, fighting for every score. Scotstown then hit two points to stretch their lead to five points. But the Faughs were undeterred.  From defence, midfield and attack they drove at everything and when they got the ball they  broke forward with passion and conviction  pulling back two points  from to narrow Scotstown’s lead once again to a goal and that was how it finished with the final score Scotstown 1-13 Blayney 0-13. Blayney are now away to Truagh on Sunday in their final game of their group.
