Club Notes 30/07/20

Lotto: No winner of last weeks lotto. Numbers drawn were 8, 19, 23 & 28. Lucky dip winner was Zoe Brady, Dundalk Rd. This weeks jackpot is for €6200 and remember to keep playing and supporting your club on lotto.castleblayneyfaughs.com

Bingo: Bingo continued last Saturday and was another day enjoyed by all including an exhibition on how to take a penalty by Stephan our number caller during the interval. The jackpot didn’t go, so next week’s jackpot is for €3400. Your continued support is much appreciated as all monies raised is going towards the development of our new Faughs training pitch.

Senior Champuonship: Our senior men had their first championship outing on a showery Saturday evening against Latton. The Faughs got off to a fast start registering the first two scores after just two minutes but Latton grew into the game and came back with two of their own to level the scores at two apiece after eight minutes. Latton then continued on the ascendancy scoring the next goal and two points without reply with the crucial goal coming from Shane Slevin. Half time came with Latton adding another two points and the Faughs adding another through the boot of Joey Hughes leaving the scoreline reading Latton 1-07 Faughs 0-04 at the break. The Faughs rallied after half time with three unanswered points Robbie Hanratty(2) and Mark Treanor the scorers but that was as close as they got with Latton out scoring the Faughs three to one in next ten minutes. The same pattern continued into the final quarter Latton continuing to dominate and the Faughs unable to find the vital breakthrough on goal. Latton indeed added another four points to the Faughs one leaving the scoreline reading at full time – Castleblayney Faughs 0-09 Latton 1-13. The lads must now regroup and hope for an improved display as they meet Carrickmacross this weekend.

Senior Ladies: The ladies lost out by two points to Killanny on Sunday last in the second round of the Junior championship. On what was a cracking game of football from both sides with the lead changing hands several times, a strong Killanny outfit came out on top in the end on a score line of Killanny 3-18 Castleblayney 2-19.

Sympathies: Castleblayney Faughs would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Jack McCarthy, The Crescent. Jack was an integral part of the 5 in a row team (1963-1967) playing at midfield. He made a name for himself at minor level, picking up a county minor championship medal in 1962.  In 1963 Big Jack, along with Gerry Fitzpatrick, Dinnie Brereton (RIP), Pat Conlon and Mac Moore, stepped up from minor to senior level where they all went on to distinguish themselves playing for the green and gold.
