Club Notes, April 21st 2015

Senior Team – The Senior team got their league campaign of to a good start with a win over Latton on Saturday evening. The Faughs opened the scoring with a couple points from Martin Mc Elroy which were added to by further points from by Dermot Malone and Patrick Tavey to make it six points apiece at half time. The second half saw the Faughs open up some day light when they scored 2- 3 without reply and entering the last ten minutes one thought the games was well over but a Latton comeback started and in a couple of minutes they had the game back to five points before a great Padraig Green point followed by a second goal for Dermot Malone saw the Green and Gold Boys emerge with a victory. Final Score Faughs 3-12 Latton 1-9. The lads now travel to Monaghan on Wednesday evening with a throw in time of 7.30pm while the lads will travel to Magheracloone next Sunday with a throw in time of 3pm. Under 6 Training – This Thursday in Rath Na Nog on Thursday 16th of April at 6pm, we are always delighted to see as many new faces as possible.

Under 8 and Under 10 Training – The Boys had their first Go Games of the year down in Monaghan last Saturday morning on what was a glorious morning for football the boys showed off all their skills with many of the boys playing for the Club for the first time. Training on the Astro turf this Thursday night for the Under 8 and Under 10‘s at the normal time. Both the Under 8’s and Under 10’s have a challenge game away to Clontibret this Saturday morning, we will be leaving the football field at 9 am and expect to be back in St.Marys Park at 11.30 am. We had a great number of parents about on Saturday and we hope to see as many of you turning out again this weekend. Mam and Dad please make sure your wee man has a gum shield and a bottle of water.

Boys Under 12 – After two defeats the boy now have to travel to Scotstown this Tuesday, throw in for the development game is at 6.30pm while the Senior team match is down for 7.45 pm. Training continues as normal this week.

Boys Under 14 – The first final of the year takes place this Saturday when the Senior U14 team travelling the short distance to Blackhill for the Division 1 Championship Final. Their opponents on the day will be Carrickmacross, this promises to be a very exciting match with very little between the two teams over the last few years. Can we ask all Faughs supporters to turn up in numbers to cheer the boys on.

Girls U14 – Our U14 Girls had their first match of the season on Monday the 19th April at home against Magheracloone. It was a fast pace game and Magheracloone were first off the mark with 2 points followed swiftly by a goal. The Castleblayney girls fought hard to get back into the game and at half time the score line was 2-8 to 0-6 to Magheracloone. The girls went out all guns blazing in the second half which saw some fantastic team play right across the field Melissa Carr and Kaitlyn McGeough pulled off some brilliant blocks on the back line. Sally Maloney, Shona Brady, Jodie McQuillan and Aoibhinn Fitzsimons worked the ball tirelessly up the field and with the help of Nicole Maguire, Aine McGlynn and Aoife McGeough they scored some great points. After all their hard work the girls eventually found their way to the back of the Magheracloone net which left a score line of 2-12 to 1-14 to Magheracloone. It was the lift that the Castleblayney girls needed and they soon followed up with another goal putting our girls ahead for the first time in the match. Grace Hanratty got the last point of the game for Castleblayney to seal the deal and at the final whistle the score was 2-15 to 2-12 to Castleblayney. It was a very positive performance from the girls and a hard fought but well deserved win.

Boys Under 16 – The Faughs U 16s took on near neighbours Cremartin on Friday night in St Mary’s Park. The team put in a good performance to take the two points with each of the starting team and the three sub’s all playing vital roles. Gavin Kelly and Colin Merrick kept Cremartins forwards at bay with Stephen Beattie adopting a number of different roles with success throughout the game. Goals proved to be the deciding factor in the end with Blayney having more success in this department. Declan Hughes stepped up to the plate with some nice scores and the midfield duo of Josh Walsh and Jack Callan were strong throughout. The teams U14s showed great commitment by togging out for the second time in 24 hours and all contributed handsomely. This Thursday sees the team taking on Corduff at home at 6.45 for what is expected to be another tough battle. Many thanks to Cremartin for facilitating a change of date owing to a clash of fixtures.

Minors – The Minor team bounced back from their recent defeat to Killanny with a good win over Doohamlet last Tuesday night, they settled early and had some impressive displays from Mark Connors, Ethan McCann , Brandon Rice and Colin Merrick. The lads make the make the short trip to Blackhill on Tuesday evening at 7.15pm, if you are available to go why and call out to watch the game.

Muckno Parish Run – The Parish are running a fun run from St.Marys Church to St Patrick Oram on Saturday 25th of April at 2pm in aid of the parish building fund for further information your can contact the parish office on 042 – 9740027.
