Club Notes, July 7th 2015

Senior Team: This Sunday 12th of July sees the senior team entertaining Monaghan Harps in a “Star” game, following our win against Clontibret in round twelve we are hoping that the team can put two good back to back performances to see climb up the table. Throw in time in St.Marys Park is 2pm.

Reserve Team: The reserve team had a home game on Sunday when they entertained Aughnamullen, the boys in Green and Gold got off to a good start with points from Aidan Mc Elroy, Gerry Brady and Jim Mc Hugh before an Aughnamullen goal put them in front, this score seemed to inspire Michael Gurn and Finbarr Finnegan as both hit a brace of points to leave the Half Time Score Faughs 0-9 Aughnamullen 1-3. The second half saw a great goal by Brandon Rice followed by further points from Brian Flanagan, Aidan Mc Elroy and Darren Malone to see the Faughs run out convincing winners of Faughs 1-17 Aughnamullen 1-7, the results leaves the lads top of the table on sixteen points. Our next game will be against Monaghan Harps in Gavan Duffy on Saturday 18th of July at 7pm.

Under 6, Boys Under 8 and Boys Under 10: With so many of these boys and girls attending Cul Camp for the week, the Coaches have decided to cancel all Juvenile training for the Boys and Girls during the week.

Boys Under 8 Go Games: The under 8’s have Go Games this Saturday in St.Marys Park starting at 10 am, can we ask parents to have the boys in the field for 9.30am. We play Latton, Carrick , Monaghan Harps and Cremartin.

Boys Under 10: The Boys had Go Games last Saturday in St.Marys Park, just after the throw in the Heavens decide to open but this didn’t deter the children from having great craic, as one child said to me afterward “even the rain was warm”. The boys all performed well right throughout the games. Our next set of Go Games will be in Magheracloone on Thursday the 16th of July at 7pm when we play Magheracloone, Clontibret and Killanny. This will be a double blitz for both Under 8 and Under 10’s.

Boys Under 12: The Senior Under 12 team play Monaghan in their last round of league games this Saturday in Monaghan, first up will be the Development team who will play the Harps, throw in for this games is 1.15 pm. This will be followed by the Senior Team who also play the Harps with a throw in time of 2.30 pm. Best of luck to both teams all we can ask is that you play your heart out.

Boys Under 14: The boys had a disappointing outlining on Saturday as they went down to Carrick by three points, they found themselves down by 2-3 to a 0-1 mid-way through the first , they battle back to get back within touch distance but a number of missed opportunities came back to haunt them. Best on the day were Conall Mc Hugh, Conor Mulligan and Max Rodgers.

Boys Under 16: On Thursday evening the Faughs U16’s travelled the short distance to Cremartin. The team were very slow off the mark and were a goal and two points down in 5 minutes. However goals from Josh Walsh, Mark Hughes and Craig Callan saw them with a good lead at half time after playing some excellent football. In the second half, Cremartin again fought back with some good scores. However this young Faughs team again took control and came home with both points in the bag. Kian O’Connor again showed he is developing into a top class keeper with Colin Merrick and Ryan McKernan giving good support. David Irwin and Craig Callan had a great first half in the middle. Up front Josh Walsh led the line with Mark Hughes, and Jack Callan ably assisting. Four of the recent under u14 Feile stars togged out and made a vital contribution to gathering the two points.

Minors Boys: The Minor League Competition has now been split into a Cup and Shield of which we are in the Cup side alongside Latton, Killanny and Patrick Emmett’s, our first game in this round robin league takes place on July 7th with an away game against Latton with a throw in time of 7.30pm.We have also been drawn against the winner of Rockcorry or Emmett Sarsfields in the Semi Final of the Championship which is due to be played on Tuesday 28th of July at 7.15pm

Girls Under 14: The U14 girls entertained Carrickmacross on Monday evening. Played in wet blustery conditions the Faughs girls settled quickly, playing some fine attacking football and displaying some excellent defensive capabilities. The girls were very unfortunate in the end to lose out by a single point at the finish. The U14 Girls have another Home game against Killanny this Wednesday (8th July) evening, throw in at 6:45pm. They then travel to play Latton in their final league game next Monday evening.

Cul Camp: Cul Camp kicked off on Monday morning in the lashing rain but that didn’t deter the huge crowd turning up, thanks to Aidan Kelly and the Monaghan Coaching team for their efforts during the week.

Clean Up Day: Thanks to the group of people who gave up their time last Saturday to help paint the wall, goals and fence on the Juvenile pitch, we need to maintain club facilities and the only way that this can happen is by everyone playing their part, we would like to hear your views over the next few weeks to see how best we can get people to turn up and play their part in making sure that St.Marys Park is a place we all can be proud off.
