Club Notes November 15th

All Star Goalkeeper Rory Beggan announced as special guest at McMahons Supervalu 5K run in Castleblayney on Sunday 25th of November.
In keeping with having some of the country’s highest profile sportspersons as their special
guest in previous years, the organisers of the Castleblayney 5km are delighted to announce
that this year their guest speaker will be Monaghan All Star Goalkeeper Rory Beggan . Rory
was recently confirmed as the country’s top Goalkeeper at the recent GAA GPA All Star
Awards .The All Star is the latest addition to Beggan’s array of awards , including two Ulster
Senior Football Championship medals ,five Senior Monaghan Championship medals plus a
host of individual sports stars awards.
Rory who is a Games Promotion Officer for the GAA in Monaghan has a very strong
connection with Castleblayney with his mother Assumpta Connolly daughter of Terry and
Grainne Connolly from the Dundalk Road. The big Monaghan stopper hasn’t always played
between the posts, spending a lot of his earlier career playing out the field before being
asked to step into Goals and as they say “the rest is history”. At the5km run Rory will
explain how he has developed his own skills under the watchful eye of Goalkeeping
Coaching Steve Williams and what it takes to become an elite athlete while holding down a
full time job.
We really look forward to meeting Rory and seeing his GAA GPA All Star award in the
Glencarn Hotel after the Mc Mahons Supervalu 5k on the 25 th of November for a questions
and answers session on how he maintains such high sporting standards with such a busy
lifestyle.
