Senior team – Saturday evening saw the senior team defeat local neighbours Doohamlet in the first round of this year Senior Championship back door, to set up a date next Friday evening against Magheracloone in Inniskeen at 8.15pm. The Faughs who started the game well, looked comfortable and in control and by the time Cormac Brady found the back of the Doohamlet net, the Faughs were up by four points, but Doohamlet to their credit dug deep over the next ten minutes to leave the sides level at 1-5 a piece at half time. The second half saw the Faughs regain control and when Martin McElroy put us four up with four minutes remaining, everyone believed that the game was over. However, a late penalty followed by a late point insured that the game finished a draw, with a full time score of Faughs 1- 10 Doohamlet 2-7. Extra time started very well for the Faughs when Club Captain Dermot Malone led by example by finishing the ball to the back of the Doohamlet net. He followed this with his second goal from the penalty spot two minutes later, to give the Faughs a commanding lead which they never looked like surrendering. The final Score was Faughs 3-13 Doohamlet 2-8. Next up is Magheracloone, which the corresponding fixture last year showed that there is nothing between these two sides. The game will take place in Inniskeen at 8.15pm on Friday night, the best of luck to all the team and management. Continue reading

The displays were as one would expect, a bit rusty, but we would have settled for four points at the beginning of the week. The results now see us move into fourth place on fifteen points with our next league game against Ballybay on Sunday 31st of August at 2pm. This Saturday evening sees us traveling to Clontibret to play Doohamlet in the Senior Championship at 6.30pm. At this stage it will be do or die for both teams with the loser exiting the Monaghan Senior Football at the first round stage. Continue reading
