Club Notes 2nd May

Seniors: On Wednesday past, our senior team took on Clontibret in the league at St. Mary’s Park. In an exciting, and at times controversial, game the Faughs went down by the minimum against a strong Clontibret side. Clontibret scored a goal from a penalty, and right at the end the Faughs had the ball in the net, but a square ball was called. Best for the Faughs on the night were Barry Hanratty and Dermot Malone. Next up for the seniors is the visit of Latton this Wednesday with a throw-in at 7.30pm.

Date for your Diary: As with previous years Monaghan GAA will be hosting an Open Morning where supporters will have an opportunity to meet and greet the Senior Players prior to their Ulster Senior Championship Preliminary Round v Fermanagh on May 20th.

This will take place this Saturday 6th May in Cloghan at 10.30am until approximately 12 noon. Supporters will have the opportunity to get their photo taken with the players, get their autographs. There will also be the opportunity to buy Monaghan merchandise.

The U10’s attending the Go Games blitz between 9.30 -11.30 will have the opportunity to meet the players after the blitz is over.

U-12 Boys: The Under twelve teams competed in the County Spring League Finals last Saturday in Cloghan , first up was the Senior Team who played Emyvale. The boys played very well on the day and won on a scoreline of Faughs 0-15 Emyvale 0-7. Best on the Day was Charlie Mc Quillan, Shay Casey and Daniel Kerr.

Next up was the Development team who played Scotstown; the Boys started well and used the wind advantage to open up a 7 point gap at half time , unfortunately the Blues made more use of the wind in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of Faughs 0-15 Scotstown 0-20. Best on the day for the development team were Ben Mc Donnell, David Lambe and Max Mc Ginnity. The boys now await the draw for their league which is scheduled to start on Saturday 13th of May.

U-10 Boys: Last Saturday saw the Under 10 travel to Monaghan Harps for the first of this year’s Go Games. We fielded 3 teams which all competed well, there were some lovely scores but also some great defending. This Saturday we travel to Cloghan for the all County Go Games, we will be leaving St Mary’s Park at 8.45 and will hopefully be back at around 12pm.

U-8 Boys: On Saturday past the U-8’s travelled with the U10’s to Monaghan to take part in the first blitz of this years Go-Games Programme. We fielded 2 teams and the lads played some great football and were a credit to themselves, their families and the club. The boys should certainly be proud of their great efforts, especially the boys who represented their club for the very first time. The future certainly looks bright with this group of Faughsmen.

Recently Deceased: We send our deepest sympathy to the family of Peter McMahon Snr, Main Street Castleblayney. He will be sadly missed by all in Castleblayney and the surrounding areas. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Well Done: A “Well Done” goes out to everyone involved in the Juvenile Race night which was held last Friday night in the Spinning Wheel , the event proved to be great fun with a full race card for the evening with all proceeds going to the Feile Fundraising event.
Another “Well Done” goes to the pupils and staff of Our Lady’s Secondary School who organised a great reception and send-off for the Cycle for Suicide cyclists during the week. Indeed one cyclist remarked that it was the warmest welcome they had received in five years of participating in the awareness cycle. Many people remarked on how well the town looked with plenty of orange bikes, ribbons and banners on display. The whole community should be very proud of the effort that went into making this a successful and memorable event.
